Discussion:

After introductions, attendees discussed past events that had worked well and seemed to draw good neighborhood involvement. The Halloween Parade and Easter Egg Hunt have always been popular and should be continued. Other events were discussed such as:

Pig Pickin, Fall Festival, Derby Races, Toy/Food Drive, Wine Club, Parents Night Out, Christmas Caroling, Progressive Night, Chili Cookoff, Scavenger Hunt, Potlucks, International and Ethnic Cookout, Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Dances, Social Tea Club, Carolina Panthers Game.

It was mentioned that events for adults only and teenagers should be considered. Soliciting the neighborhood babysitters to care for younger children at the clubhouse during these events was also discussed.

The purchase of a used TV for the clubhouse was suggested which would facilitate events like movie night, Parents Night Out, Sunday football, etc. The SC will follow-up with the Board.

The current budget is around $3,800. The Pool Party used around $500-$1000 of that budget so the remainder must be used by end of year. New budget should be submitted to the Board by October/November 2006.

Some issues such as lack of community involvement in the planning of events and finding coordinators and helpers/volunteers. Also, gathering feedback on events is somewhat problematic.

It was determined that there should be attempts to encourage the community to get involved with event selection, planning, and feedback by utilizing the neighborhood website (www.CharlestonVillage.org) and discussion forums. The Social Committee will continue using flyers and the community billboards as a large portion of the neighborhood is not plugged into the local website yet.

The Social Committee posted an online survey to the neighborhood website. As of meeting, 17 postings had been made along with suggestions for events. The Social Committee will discuss the results of the survey at the next meeting. Meetings will be held on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at the clubhouse.

It was suggested that adding kids artwork, raffles, etc could be used to encourage neighbors to visit the website and forums. Bruce Chao and others have offered to help with this effort.

Connie Friedline mentioned an effort was underway to put together a neighborhood directory. It was mentioned that a neighborhood email mailing list would be useful for proposing and discussing events and soliciting for coordinators, helpers, etc.

Jeannie Hellman has offered to coordinate the Social Tea and Toy/Food Drive with Liz Dibari. Bruce Chao/Jon Hamilton will coordinate the Halloween Parade. Coordinators for other events has yet TBD.
